East of the Mississippi

 

Unlike the Plains Indians, who followed the buffalo over great distances, the tribes that lived east of the Mississippi tended to remain in smaller areas. They had what is called a Woodland culture. That means they found all of their food by fishing, hunting, and gathering berries, fruits, and nuts.
