The definite article the is used before a singular noun, a plural noun, or a noncount noun to refer to a specific person, place, or thing.
The is used when the speaker and the listen both know which particular item is being referred to:
She showed me the watch her boyfriend gave her for her bithday.
The flowers he sent her were beautiful.
The furniture I bought was cheap.
