What do the best English lesson plans need?[최고의 영어 수업에 뭐가 필요한가?]
An aim[목표]
When I started teaching, I found this tough.[내가 가르치기 시작했을 때, 이것이 어려웠다.]
The aim is the ‘why’ of the lesson and without it you can plan nothing.[목표야말로 수업의 이유이며 그것 없이는 여러분은 아무 계획도 세울 수가 없다.]
Start at the aim and work back.[목표를 향해 시작하고 마무리를 해라.]
For example if your aim is to provide speaking practice in a particular situation then make sure you give your students the grammar, vocabulary and background information they need before they can talk to each other.[예를 들어 여러분의 목표가 특정한 상황에서의 말하기 연습이라면, 학생들에게 서로 말하기 전에 필요한 문법, 어휘와 배경 지식을 확실하게 설명하라.]
Tell your students what the aim is, and then they will stay focused too.[학생들에게 목표가 무엇인지 말하면, 그들도 집중할 것이다.]
It is also good to recap the aim at the end of the lesson so the students leave knowing what they have achieved.[또한 수업이 끝날 때쯤 목표를 요약하는 것도 좋다. 그렇게 하면 학생들이 습득한 지식이 머리에 남아 있을 테니까.]
Relevance[관련성]
Keep the lessons relevant to the class.[수업과 관련있는 수업을 해라.]
There is no point doing a lesson based on politics for a class of elementary school age kids, and a lesson about the current teen star won’t be of much interest to most adults![초등학교 나이의 어린이 수업에서 정치 관련 수업을 한다든가, 대부분의 성인들이 대상인 수업에서 최신 10대 스타들의 거론 자체가 관심이 없을뿐더러 초점을 벗어날 따름이다.]
Find subjects the class will be interested in and base your lessons around these.[수업에 관심이 있을 만한 주제를 찾아 이를 바탕으로 한 수업을 만들어라.]
If possible, get your students to choose the subjects themselves.[가능하다면, 학생들로 하여금 스스로 주제를 선택하게 하는 것도 좋다.]
Variety[다양성]
Make sure you vary your tasks so your students don’t get bored.[학생들이 지루하지 않도록 당신의 수업을 다양하게 구성하라.]
Try and include different activities for students with different learning styles.[다양한 학습 유형의 다양한 활동수업이 포함되도록 하라.]
For example, some visual tasks (try using picture activities), some physical tasks (try getting your students to act things or move round the class), some audio tasks (music is great if you use it in the right way), and some old-fashioned reading and writing tasks.[예를 들면, 시각 수업<그림이나 사진을 사용할 수 있도록>, 활동 수업<학생들이 사물에 동작하거나 교실 내에서 움직인다든가>, 청각 수업<음악은 적절하게 사용하면 훌륭한 교재>과 고전 방식인 읽기와 영작 수업 등을 할 수도 있다.]
Even adults start to lose interest after about 30 minutes so keep each stage short.[어른들도 30분이 지나면 관심이 줄어들기 시작하므로 각 단계를 짧게 하라.]
Plan B[ B 계획]
I don’t mean you need to write two lesson plans, but it’s a good idea to have some extra activities you can use if something doesn’t work, or if students finish too soon.[두개의 수업 계획을 작성할 필요는 없겠지만, 어떤 수업이 원활하게 돌아가지 않거나, 수업이 너무 빨리 끝날 때를 대비하여 여분의 활동 수업을 준비하는 것이 좋겠다는 의미이다.]
If you did a reading activity and they finished too early, get them write comprehension questions for a partner, or give them dictation on part of the text.[읽기 수업을 하는데 너무 일찍 끝나면, 학생들의 짝에게 이해 여부를 묻는 질문을 쓴다든가, 또는 교재의 일부를 정하여 따라 쓰기<dictation>를 시키는 것이다.]
Having extra activities prepared means you don’t panic if you finish early and gives students extra practice.[여분의 수업준비는 수업이 일찍 끝나도 다른 연습을 시킬 수 있으므로 여러분을 당황하지 않게 한다.]
Interest and personality[관심과 개성]
Don’t become a teaching machine.[가르치는 기계가 되지 마라.]
Put something of your own personality into your lessons.[당신 자신의 개성을 살려서 수업에 활용하라.]
Your students will appreciate this.[학생들이 이것을 평가할 것이다.]
If you like music, write a lesson plan around a particular song.[당신이 음악을 좋아하면, 특정한 노래를 중심으로 수업 계획을 세워라.]
If you are a keen sports person then use that to create fun games and activities.[당신이 스포츠를 좋아하면 그를 이용하여 재미있는 게임과 활동을 창작할 수도 있다.]
Your enthusiasm for the subject will be clear and your students will also be enthusiastic about learning.[수업 주제에 대한 당신의 열정이 명료하면 학생들도 수업에 대하여 열정적일 수밖에 없다.]
Humor is also important in lessons and can be used at any level.[수업에서 유머 또한 중요하며, 어떤 수준이라도 써먹을 수 있다.]
Warm up[준비 운동]
Warm up activities are essential.[준비 활동은 필수적이다.]
If you exercise then you need to warm up first so your body can get the full benefit of your training.[당신이 운동을 한다면, 먼저 당신의 몸이 훈련의 최대 효과를 발휘할 수 있는 준비운동이 필요한 것과 똑같다.]
It’s the same with mental training.[정신 훈련에서도 동일하다.]
If you give your students challenging work to do before they have tuned into English, it may be too difficult for them and they will lose motivation.[당신의 학생들이 영어에 적응하기도 전에 수업이 벅차면, 너무 어려워서 동기 부여를 잃어버릴 수도 있다.]
A 5 minute word game or a quick conversation with a partner is all you need.[약 5분 정도의 단어 게임을 하거나 짝과 빠른 대화를 하는 것이 모두에게 필요하다.]
Try and keep it relevant to your lesson to maximize learning.[당신의 학습 효과가 극대화 될 수 있도록 노력하고 연관성을 유지하라.]
