Do Not Read Like A Robot(로봇처럼 읽지 마라)
Just reading something and assuming that you are learning by some form of osmosis is futile.(여러분이 느슨한 상태로 뭔가를 읽고 있으며 뭔가를 배우고 있다는 오만함은 백해무익하다.)
I have encountered many students who do exactly this.(나는 이와 똑같이 하는 학생들을 많이 보아 왔다.)
They read out loud and they sound like they understand every word they are reading.(그들은 소리 내어 읽고 그들이 읽고 있는 모든 단어를 이해하고 있는 것처럼 듣는다.)
But in fact, they are just reading like a robot. Reciting all the words without really understanding or comprehending what they are reading.(하지만 사실, 그들은 꼭 로봇처럼 읽고 있는 것이다. 그들이 읽고 있는 것을 진정으로 이해하려 들지 않고 그저 단어만 외우고 있는 것이다.)
Do not do this!(이렇게 하지 마라!)
To combat this, ask yourself questions about the text.(이와 투쟁하기 위해, 여러분 스스로 텍스트에 대해 질문하라.)
Every few paragraphs—or maybe every paragraph—ask yourself what is going on in the book you are reading.(몇 개의 문단 아니 어쩌면 모든 문단이 여러분이 읽고 있는 책에서 어떻게 되어 가느냐고 여러분 자신에게 묻고 있는지도 모른다.)
*What actions have taken place?(무슨 행동이 일어나고 있는가?)
*What is the main character thinking about?(주인공이 무슨 생각을 하고 있는가?)
*What are the people saying in the dialogue?(사람들이 책 속의 대화에서 무슨 말을 하고 있는가?)
